In December 1995, ICT was upgraded and opened as a Government Technical Institute (Thanlyin). EP, EC, MP, MT and Civil subjects were opened and taught at GTI (Thanlyin). In 2007, it was converted into a Technological University (Thanlyin) and in 2018, plans were made to re-open as Government Technical institute.
On November 30, 2022, the Government Technical Institute was inaugurated pressing the button by U Soe Thein , Prime Minister of the Yangon Region Government. On December 1, 2022, Civil Engineering course , Electrical Power Engineering course and Mechanical Engineering course will be opened. Short-term courses are also opened and taught based on local needs. Efforts are being made to meet the needs of workers.
Dr. Kyaw Khaing Khaing Aung (Ph.D-IT) is the principal of Government Technical Institute (Thanlyin).
